June is a month long celebration of men and dads. It is the month we celebrate Father’s Day, but it is also National Men’s Health Month. There is no better time to remind that guy in your life how much he means to you but also how he should be taking care of his health.

As a daughter, wife, mom of two young men, and sister to three brothers, I will definitely take this month to encourage the men in my life to focus on themselves for a minute. I lost my dad a few years ago as a result of a massive heart attack. That makes this dear and near to my heart. Men’s Health Month is to provide awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection for men and boys. I have listed below what I think are the top three things we should be encouraging the men in our lives to do, in a loving way of course.

  1. Make the appointment- Routine check ups, screenings and dental exams. Get them all on your calendar.
  2. Get active- Go for a walk or a hike. It doesn’t have to be a 30 minute sweat session at the local gym, make it something enjoyable and fun.
  3. Drink more water!
