Is there a hidden secret to becoming a success in life, and if so what is it?  It’s a question we have all had cross our minds.  I have read several books and listened to several speakers on just this topic, and after much research one can easily see a common theme.  It really is nothing more than Earl Nightingale explained nearly 100 years ago on his radio show and if you ask me, nothing has changed in all this time.

What is the big secret so many of us fail to learn?  Well it’s pretty simple really.

You have to have a goal in mind, you have to know what you want.  Just like if you never think about baking a pie, you’ll never do the research to learn the recipe.  If you never dream of becoming a multimillionaire or an astronaut or a musician, you’ll never get there; you first have to know exactly what it is you want to do, and then figure out exactly how much you would like to be paid for doing it.

As he says, “we are all self-made, but only the successful will admit it.”  So many people fail to dream outside their current reality when really, it’s just that simple.

It also important to know that our rewards in life are always in exact proportion to our contributions.  In other words, the money you make is in direct correlation to the need for your skill, your ability to do it, and the degree of difficulty in replacing you.  He refers to this as the formula for becoming rich, and the world still works like this today, even with all our technological advances.

Another very important key to success is your mind.  You should always be thinking of new ways to do things and improvements to be made, as there is nothing done today that won’t be done better and more efficiently in 10 years.  Those are the ideas that bring with them successful business people and wealth.

In the program, he points out that most people who open a business make a point of doing everything exactly like other people in the same industry are doing. Think about it; when you walk in a bank, for example, many of those are still all the same when you walk in, and if you look around your community even today you will find most businesses within the community are pretty similar of their local competition.  This is a guarantee for mediocrity!  If you want to truly be successful, you can’t do what everyone else does, you have to be thinking ahead.  Always try to run your business in a manor you predict the industry to be in 10 years.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.

The only other requirement for a successful life is attitude.  Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?  You should act like the person you wish to become until one day you are that person!  You can alter your life by simply altering your attitude.

My challenge to you is this, simply write down five goals you would like to achieve.  Then spend a couple of minutes each day over the next year thinking about a plan to implement your goal.  I think you will be pleased by how much you accomplish by nothing more than knowing what you want and believing its possible.
